While traditional physical therapy mirrors a medical system
that too often temporarily alleviates symptoms,
Classical Osteopathy and Postural Restoration consider the whole body
and endeavor to find the root causes of your pain and dysfunction.

Classical Osteopathy

The body parts and systems do not work in isolation, and modern medicine’s organization into medical specialties and sub-specialties does not lend itself well to appreciating the whole individual.

Many types of body lesions (circulatory, neural, fascial, lymphatic, muscular, organ, energetic) can be identified and treated with evidence-based classical osteopathic techniques.  Quite frequently, these lesions are distantly located from the area of reported symptoms and pain, but the body always provides clues leading a trained practitioner to dysfunction.

I use a blend of osteopathic techniques as indicated. For more information, click on any of the links below.

The Upledger Institute

CranioSacral Therapy treats the nourishing fluid hydraulic system of the skull & spinal column. Fascial restrictions within this system can create neural compression, limit osseous movement and/or restrict cerebrospinal fluid flow compromising brain, spinal, musculoskeletal, visceral, and cranial nerve function.

The D’Ambrogio Institute

Total Body Balancing inhibits lines of tension promoting fluid, neural, and energetic flow to regulate the autonomic nervous system and enhance all body systems.

Lymphatic Balancing targets dysfunction of the vessels and nodes that remove cellular waste and excess fluid and produce immune cells.

The Barral Institute

Visceral Manipulation restores organ mobility to improve visceral function and boost the health of the Enteric Nervous System, better know as the “second brain,” which lines the gastrointestinal tract and contains more than 100 million nerve cells.

Postural Restoration

Think of your body as a musculoskeletal “container.”  Despite this container looking like a mirror image bilaterally, the contents of our bodies display none of this basic symmetry. Inside -

  • single organs are located off center

  • we breathe with two diaphragm leaflets of differing size and attachment

  • the body’s neurological, circulatory, and lymphatic systems are enormously asymmetric

To preserve equilibrium, our musculoskeletal system and sensory organs assume varying responsibilities on right vs. left sides. Additional demands that challenge our ability to maintain form and function include -

  • musculoskeletal overuse

  • injury/surgery

  • inefficient breathing

  • faulty body mechanics

  • the aging process/stress

Postural Restoration masterfully teaches us how to manage these influences as well as gravitational and pressure gradient forces to enable us to sense our environment, suitably respond, stabilize, and fluidly move.
